How To Still Burn Lots Of Calories – Without Exercising

18 March 2010

Burning CaloriesOne of the most popular reasons for not exercising is a lack of time, which is not surprising given today’s hectic work schedules.

Fortunately there is something most of us can do to burn lots of calories, which doesn’t involve getting all hot and sweaty, and out of breath.

Walking is a forgotten art; the simple act of putting one foot in front of the other, whilst swinging our arms from side to side, requires a lot of co-ordination and balance – it also clocks up a surprising amount of calories!

All those opportunities like walking in the morning or at lunch-time; walking to collect the kids from school; walking to the shops; taking the stairs instead of lifts and escalators; taking a 20 minute stroll around the block before and/or after dinner in the evening – all add up to burning a lot of calories.

The Spanish are well known for eating late, but you’ll also find them walking around a lot in the evening. This is because walking triggers appetite and assists the digestion process - which doesn’t happen whilst we’re sat down in front of the TV!

Buy a cheap basic pedometer from Amazon (or if you are uber cool, download an app on your smart phone) to measure how many calories you burn during a typical day – then see how easy it is to double it just by walking more.
